Disordered Eating

Disordered Eating

Disordered eating refers to a particular relationship with food that is not just about eating to live. Rather, food plays an important psychological role in how an individual copes with e.g. stress; emotional issues but it does not meet the criteria for an eating disorder. It is nonetheless a problem that can fill the person’s daily thoughts and it can affect various aspects of life, including relationships, socialisation, general activities and of course self-esteem.

If you have struggled to maintain a healthy weight or find yourself constantly trying to go on diets then please see Psychodynamic Causes and also Psychological Causes of Eating Disorders and of course the section on Dieting. I’m sure you will find information there that you may identify with. If you still have a query then please send me your question.
